Thank you, Transition and Mark your Calendars

Our thanks go out to the State Bar of Nevada, who have, until July 1, 2019 sponsored the We the People program.

With the passing of SB 193, all grade levels of We the People and Project Citizen are moving out of the State Bar of Nevada and to the Nevada Center for Civic Engagement.  Kathleen Dickinson will be the Program Director and her cell phone continues to be 70‌2.4‌19.45‌55.

Here are some student thank you notes

NvCCE wrote four letters of support to the Department of Education supporting the Center for Civic Education’s endeavors. We welcome your ideas on building the Nevada Center for Civic Engagement Statewide. It is more important everyday for our citizens to learn about our United State Constitution and how current events correlate to it.

The Center for Civic Education (www.civiced.org) programs of We the People, Project Citizen, the James Madison Legacy Project, and Strengthening Democracy in America are all invaluable for our Nevada teachers and students.

The programs teach critical thinking, research skills, communication skills and knowledge.

Our September 2018 trainings will involve panels of community non-profit organizations and elected officials so that our teachers have strategies teaching current events in their classrooms. Our We the People trainers and mentors include: Angela Orr, Sarah Brown, Mario Fitzpatrick, Denise Coverley Paxton, Jamie Thomsen and Frank Rivas in Northern Nevada and Deborah Berger and Carol McGrew in Southern Nevada.

We welcome your Grant ideas and Foundation contacts that will enable us to build a strong Nevada Center for Civic Engagement.

Update from the Nevada Center for Civic Engagement (NvCCE)

NvCCE has been busy in 2018. We supported Nevada elementary and middle schools and their in-classroom hearings this past spring.

We are overseeing the remaining four months of a three-year James Madison Legacy Project (JMLP) grant. This grant allows NvCCE to provide trainings in June and September 2018 for middle school and high school teachers from around the state who have participated in three years of JMLP cohorts.

Our NvCCE website is available: https://nvcce.org. You can find us on Facebook, Twitter, and Google Plus.

Our Board members have held strategy sessions to determine short and long term goals, partnerships, additional civic programs, and fundraising plans. Fundraising needs include community outreach, infrastructure, textbooks for schools, stipends for curriculum trainers, and travel for the schools going to the State and National Competitions.

We had a successful Facebook fundraiser for textbooks for Bowler Elementary School in Bunkerville, Nevada. You can contribute on our website and by writing checks to NvCCE and sending them to Post Office Box 3344, Reno, NV 89505.
