2023 We the People High School Invitational
We the People Simulated Congressional Hearings
The We the People program's culminating activity is a simulated congressional hearing in which students "testify" before a panel of judges acting as members of Congress. Students demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of constitutional principles and have opportunities to evaluate, take, and defend positions on relevant historical and contemporary issues.
2022 We the People Regional Awards
We the People: The Citizen & The Constitution
The Simulated Congressional Hearing provides students an opportunity to demonstrate their
knowledge and understanding of constitutional principles and ideas while providing teachers an excellent means of assessing student learning. The entire class, working in cooperative teams, prepares and presents four-minute statements before a panel of community representatives acting as a congressional committee. Students then answer follow-up questions posed by the committee members.
Simulated Hearings: Elementary, Middle, and High School
Students in Upper Elementary, Middle School, and High School classes use a leveled version of the We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution Textbook to serve as the foundation for Constitutional Questions.
Help us bring We the People: The Citizen and The Constitution to more classrooms across Nevada
Through our mission to "open the door to democracy by supporting teachers, empowering students, and engaging the community for a more educated Nevada," we are committed to the success of Nevada's youth through our high-quality inquiry-driven programs.
Students who participate in inquiry-driven programs develop college & career skills, engage in informed community action, and spread the message of civics education. We reach out to students in all grades, socioeconomic groups, and all corners of the Silver State, but we need your help with a donation from the heart.
Nevada Center for Civic Engagement is a place for everyone to deepen their knowledge and understanding of our governmental foundations.
We appreciate your support and your trust in our mission.
Nevada Center for Civic Engagement 501(c)3 is a non-profit organization and receives no ongoing government support. Instead, we rely on grants and support from community members like you to support our teachers and students statewide for kindergarten through 12th grade and beyond in our programs.
