What does it mean to be a global citizen?

Due to the political climate the past few years, “citizen” has become politicalized, and controversy surrounding the “Citizen” in Project Citizen has surfaced. When we look closely into Project Citizen, we can see that the “citizen” in Project Citizen is a global definition. A better way to understand the intent of “citizen” in Project Citizen is to identify a big “C” and little “c”. The big “C” is the legal definition of Citizen, constitutional. The little “c” is the global definition—We are all part of being a global citizen; inhabitant of a city or town.

Independent film producer and former Disney executive Patrick Davidson produced "The World We Want," a documentary film about students around the world participating in the Center for Civic Education's "Project Citizen" civic education program. The film highlights students using the democratic process to make a positive difference in their communities and countries.
