How does the Federal Court System work?

When the United States Supreme Court makes a decision it makes international headlines…but how does a case make its way to the Supreme Court? The Supreme Court is the final step in our Federal Court System. There are 94 district courts, 13 circuit courts, and one Supreme Court throughout the country.

When a case enters the Federal Court System is must follow a specific path through the district and circuit courts before it can get to the US Supreme Court.
