History Day in Nevada

2024 State Contest Information

It’s time to take an adventure into the Turning Points in History. 2024 is the 50th anniversary of the National History Day program, and here in Nevada, we have several amazing opportunities for students to showcase their projects.

History Day student showcase for History Day Projects will take place on February 24th at The Mob Museum and on March 2nd at Nevada State Museum in Carson City.

Below are a few important details for our Nevada students.

  • Registration will open on January 8th

  • We will host two in-person showcases for students (February 24 in Southern Nevada and March 2 in Northern Nevada)

  • All students will upload their materials to ZFairs and will get feedback and rubric scores from our judges (regardless of attendance at in-person showcases)

  • All projects will need to upload an interview responding to the questions below.

  • This year, the NHD Theme is “Turning Points in History”

  • The national contest will be held June 9–13, 2024, University of Maryland, College Park

  • We welcome students from grades 4 to 12 to participate in NHD in NV.

  • Students do not need to complete this as a class project, but we encourage teachers and schools to use NHD as a class PBL.

Interviews

With a lot of logistics, including testing, spring break, and two in-person showcases, we are going to pre-record interviews this year. Students have the option to record their own interview (they should choose an adult or peer to ask the questions and answer them on camera), or they can schedule an interview with the NHD in NV Coordinator (Christine Hull).

This way, students are still able to speak about their project, share their passion for the topics, and give important information to the judges, but it can be done on their own schedule. This setup honors the student’s hard work and allows everyone flexibility.

There is a space for a web link in the registration materials. If students record their own interviews, they will provide a link to their video in that space. If they interview with Christine, we will add the link to the video.
