Social Studies and We The People instructor at McDermitt High School tells about her background in teaching and passion for spreading civic engagement through teaching.

Stephanie has been a Social Studies teacher for the past 17 years. She currently works with a largely Native American population at McDermitt. This is a combined school in McDermitt, Nevada. McDermitt is a very rural school with the Humboldt County School District. She has worked with the We the People program for about 14 years. She began her We the People instructing at a charter high school in Washoe County. She is proud to be apart of the McDermitt team as they are the only school in Humboldt County at this time.

What brought you to NVCCE?

Working with Christine Hull and Kathleen Dickinson through the We the People program.

What do you love most about the work you do with our civic engagement programs?

Exciting young people to learn, understand, and participate in community and government.

What is your vision of NVCCE in the future?

That they continue to reach out to all ages, and promote civic engagement and education to all groups of people, especially those that have been, or still are, disenfranchised.
