Celebrating a Legacy of Civic Learning

The Nevada Center for Civic Engagement would like to celebrate one incredibly dedicated woman who has spent the better part of the last two decades coordinating We the People and Project Citizen for the State of Nevada. Kathleen Dickinson, retired at the end of December, and while we know she will continue to support our programs, we could not think of a better way to honor her than starting the annual Dickinson Emerging Teacher Award to celebrate her dedication, passion, and commitment to ensuring that teachers have all the resources they need to integrate inquiry-based learning in their classrooms and to give students opportunities to use their voice.

Kathleen embodies the very essence of civic engagement. She is, at her core, a passionate and involved citizen who has spent the last few decades championing the civic development of educators and young people. Kathleen never misses an opportunity to share her learning and to celebrate others in the community. She lives her values and will continue to be a role model for civil civic dialogue and participation.

Announcing the Dickinson Emerging Teacher Award

Each year, one We the People High School teacher will be nominated by their peers to represent Nevada as the Dickinson Emerging Teacher of the Year. They will attend the We the People National Finals as a representative of our state as well as share their expertise with new teachers.

To keep this award going for years to come, we have set a goal of $5,000; please consider contributing to this fund to support our teachers.

With your help, the Nevada Center for Civic Engagement can reach this goal and continue the work we’ve set out to do in this campaign.

Please help if you can. Every donation makes a difference.
